188: Scenes from a camping trip

I was away for the last four days on a camping trip up in Vermont.  This has become a yearly tradition among my circle of friends and has become bigger and bigger every year.  This year, we had 30 campers all in all, and if not for Hurricane Irene’s “intermission”, all 30 campers would have stayed for the rest of the weekend.  It was still a very fun and memorable trip, with great weather for the most part.  Here are some snapshots from the weekend that was.

Bingham Falls, trail starts off VT-108N, just 0.2 miles from the Smugglers Notch campgrounds

An interesting composition I found from our lunch rest stop en route to the campsite.

Sterling Pond, a hidden gem within Mt. Madonna. The trail is a 2.2-mi round trip hike which starts at the Smugglers' Cave information booth.

Mt. Mansfield, the highest mountain in Vermont. We took the gondola up to tackle Cliff trail, a grueling, but rewarding, hike to Mt. Mansfield's peak.

Mushrooms in and around Smugglers' Notch, most of them taken along the Sterling Pond trail.
