I was going through my scraps of paper on my desk when I came across this quotation I wrote from the movie “Good Will Hunting.” I’ve only watched it recently, although it was first released in 1997 and have heard great things about it. I think this quote struck a chord in me when I watched the film, and it struck the same chord again when I read it earlier that I thought I should share it. This transpired during a conversation (one of many) between Robin Williams’ and Matt Damon’s characters. Robin Williams was talking about his wife, who already passed away.
“It’s wonderful stuff you know, little things like that. Yeah, those are the things I miss the most. Those little idiosyncrasies that I only know about. That’s what made her my wife. Boy, and she has the goods on me too. She knows all my pecadillos. People call these things “imperfections,” but they are not. That’s the good stuff. And then we get to choose who we let into our weird little worlds. You’re not perfect, sport. And let me save you the suspense. This girl you met, she isn’t perfect either. But the question is whether or not you’re perfect for each other. That’s the whole deal. That’s what intimacy is all about.”
There were other great moments in the movie too, I think it should be on people’s must-watch lists.
